The atmosphere in the Walk-up Skydome was at an all time high for the homecoming match up versus Cal Poly. The energy started for the Lumberjacks as they walked through the tailgate where they were supported by the entire school. With packed stands, the first quester gets underway after the captains meet at center field. Playing off the energy from the crowd, NAU capitalizes the first quarter. After a few back and forth unsuccessful drives the Lumberjacks are able to go up 7-0. NAU converts on a 7 yard run by Logan with a total of 4 plays and 35 yards on the drive. Moving into the second quarter, the Lumberjacks are quickly silenced by Cal Poly’s impressive efforts. The next 15 minutes of football are completely dominated by the Mustangs with 4 unanswered touchdowns putting them up 28-7 by half time. This quarter resulted in touch downs from four different players Jenkins, Harrison, Koski, and Protheroe with a total of 241

yards of offense. After the teams head back to the locker rooms for half time, the crowd hopes to see more life out of the Lumberjacks; however, the first drive by Cal Poly is yet again converted for a 37 yard field goal by Vega. Not even four minutes later, they push 50 yards down the field were Jenkins runs the ball 1 yard into the end zone bringing the score to 38-7 with 38 unanswered points by

the Lumberjacks. Deciding to finally walk up, NAU takes 2 minutes at the end of the third to go 47 yards into the end zone with at 20 yard pass caught by Butler bring the score to 38-14. With 15 minutes to attempt to win the game, the Lumberjacks make a valid effort. A quick six plays over 67 yards bring Mpungi into the end zone with a 1 yard run. More time coming off of the clock, NAU’s time is running out. They are able to convert another touchdown with a 5 yard run by Logan to bring the final score of the game to 38-28 Cal Poly.
