I’m Kristen Dalton with KJACK News, and these are your top headlines for Tuesday. October 16th.

Saturday in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, two wild horses were found dead on Forest Service Road 50. The Heber Wild Horse group says that the two horses were found with gunshot wounds, which led to the investigation of this shooting. The investigation is being headed by the U.S. Forest Service officials and a reward is being offered by the Salt River Wild Horse Management group to anyone who gives information that leads to the arrest of those responsible.

Now looking to California, two major utility companies made the bold decision to cut the power of some of their customers in areas of high winds in an attempt to decrease the chance of wildfire. Pacific Gas & Electric switched off their power on Sunday night in the Northern California area, where there have been warnings of extreme fire danger. The next day, San Diego Gas & Electric made the same move in the foothill areas close to the Cleveland National Forest, which has been a popular area for sudden blazes recently.

Yesterday, an elk hunter in Gallatin National Forest, just north of Yellowstone National Park, was attacked by a bear and her cub. Before another hunter could drive away the bear, the man had already suffered the bear biting into his left arm and clawing at his face, catching the bridge of his nose and a bit of his eye. Thankfully, the man will be okay after having a few surgical procedures done to fix his broken arm. This attack is the most recent of as least 7 bear attacks in the Northern Rocky Mountains since May.

In Boston, Massachusetts, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren released the results of a DNA test that proves her Native American Heritage. This is a result of a pledge made by President Donald Trump that said he would donate $1 million dollars to a charity if the Democratic Senator could prove that she was of Native American decent. According to the AP Wire, Trump has falsely denied ever making the offer with Warren.

And now for your weather update. Today, we’re expecting a high of around 40 degrees and a low of about 31 degrees. There’s a 70% chance of precipitation, so make sure you’re bundled up and keep an umbrella handy.
