The battle of the undefeated teams comes to a suspenseful end in front of a packed house at Coconino high school on Friday September, 21. Only to add to the home field advantage, the Panthers receive the ball to start the game.

As the clock begins to count down in the first quarter, the first drive by the Panthers turns unsuccessful as the Bradshaw Mountain Bears take over. Unfazed by the large crowd, the Bears march down the field resulting in a touchdown by #5 Logan Brannan with a 1 yard run followed by a completed PAT by Grant with 8 minutes to go in the first. Unpleased with their starting efforts in the game, the Panthers initiate a strong offensive push down the field. Their drive ended with Bennett’s 23 yard run into the end zone. Trejo then ties the score at 7-7 with five minutes remaining in the quarter.

Both teams seeming very evenly matched, the undefeated match up maintains the suspense into the second quarter. The Bears are the next team to add to their score with a 14 yard rush by Mata only to be followed by a missed PAT keeping the score at 13-7 with 9 minutes remaining in the quarter. The battle continues with several unsuccessful drives bringing the game to half time.

Only adding to their momentum from the first half, the Bears start with the ball. Things start to look up for the Panthers as they force the Bears to a stop. Coconino begins to play to their full capability as they start a potential tying drive down the field. The persistent Bears refuse to allow the Panthers to have a come back as Brannan has a 72 yard pick 6 adding to their lead. Grant, the Bears quarterback, makes up for the missed PAT in the first half with successful 2-pt conversion passing the ball to Cabral bringing the score to 21-7 with 8 minutes left in the third. The bears only continue to prove their dominance in front of Coconino’s home crowd as they start a successful drive ending with a 10 yard run by Grant with under a minute to go in the quarter. Making the score 28-7 Arroyo completes the PAT bringing the third to an end.

In an effort to make a come back back against the Bears, Coconino rushes down the field with a scoring drive ending in a 10 yard pass from Owen to Billups with 11 minutes left in the games. Looking good for a come back, the Bears complete their PAT bringing the score to 28-14. Unlike the offensive performances shown in the rest of the game, both teams are unsuccessful in completing a scoring drive.

The game comes to and End with the score of 28-14. The Bears record improves to 6-0 while the Panthers fall to 4-1. The Panthers look forward to improving on their mistakes to be prepared for 3-2 Prescott Valley Badgers on Friday September, 28.
