I’m Aidan Lindgren with KJACK News and these are your top headlines for Thursday, October 4th.

Flagstaff Police say they're investigating the death of a New Mexico woman.

Officials say the body of 32-year-old Vanessa Lee was found by a citizen Sunday afternoon in the Rio De Flag area.

The cause of death is unknown at this time and is being investigated by the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office.

In other local news,

A Northern Arizona University student was killed along with three others injured when a truck went off a national forest road and struck a tree near Ashurst Lake.

A spokesperson for The Sheriff's Office stated that the cause of the wreck remains under investigation.

The vehicle's other three occupants were treated at a hospital and have since been released.

Looking statewide now,

The United States Supreme Court has refused to review an Obama-era action that makes land around the Grand Canyon off-limits to new mining claims.

One thousand five hundred and sixty two square miles outside the boundaries of the national park are currently off-limits to new hard rock mining claims until 2032.

The twenty year ban was meant to slow a flurry of mining claims over concern that the Colorado River could become contaminated

The mining industry asked the Supreme Court in March to review the ban, claiming it was unconstitutional. The high court on Monday declined the request, leaving the ban in place.
