On March 22, 2019, Tame Impala front man Kevin Parker released an image on Instagram with the caption, “New track. 1 hour. Speakers/headphones ready people.” One hour later the track “Patience” was available for streaming.

Self-described as yacht rock, the band lives up to the hype that was created when they released their last album, Currents four years ago. “Has it even been that long,” cries Parker in the first line. The key board and the congas, which are featured on the single’s cover, come in strong making this track an automatic bop. With an almost disco vibe, the band has still strayed away from the heavy guitar riffs featured in their first album, Interspeaker and their second, Lonerism, instead continuing with the heavy bass and synths seen in Currents. But they are doing something right as Currents blew up when it came out, even catching the attention of pop singer Rihanna who covered one of their songs.

This said, it leaves a question: is Tame Impala finally releasing another album? The good news is that the signs point to yes. Tame Impala was announced as a headliner at Coachella this year, and Kevin Parker said in an interview with Matt Wilkinson on Beats 1 that he hoped the band would release more music by this summer. Tame Impala also played “Patience” as well as an unreleased song “Borderline” live on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. So perhaps we will have new releases very soon.

We will all just have to have “Patience” in waiting for more announcements to be made from Tame Impala.
