It has been a little over a week since the KJACK Live Arts Festival on February 23, 2018 at the Orpheum Theater in Flagstaff, AZ. KJACK has had the Live Arts Fest every semester for many years now and this one was just as much of a treat as all the others. We were pleased to have so many artists show out from Phoenix and even our usual local bands. The concert featured Jane N’ The Jungle, Sunday at Noon, Flight of Ryan, DJ Bear Cole and The Sink or Swim. The intense blizzard that blew through town didn’t stop the artists or their fans from rocking out with us. This year, KJACK’s music department decided to put together a first hand account of our experience at the show! Here is what some of our staff in the music department had to say about the festival.
“As I prepared for my descent into the snowglobe that was Flagstaff the night of the 23rd, I could have never guessed what laid before me that night. Although the Uber prices were definitely one for the books that night, there was also some pretty astounding music that caught my attention.
I arrived to the KJACK Live Arts Festival venue, the Orpheum, there was no one outside. This most likely due to the fact that a blizzard had just rolled through Flagstaff that day, leaving the streets icey, and the air icier. Upon entering the venue, I found there to be some completely different vibes.
I strolled down to the stage to watch the first band, Sunday at Noon perform. This rock band, from Phoenix, had very strong hints of Led Zeppelin and Queens of the Stone Age. The band consists of Jackson VanDerPol on Lead Vocals and Guitar, Nate Vanderpol on Drums, dylan welker on rhythm guitar and Carl Gumpert on bass guitar. There was very clear chemistry between the bandmates, and they were able to recreate that original Rock n Roll sound. “
